We teach English and Spanish as foreign languages at all levels since 1968. The Class Program is an integral part of the Institute’s mission. Group classes are strictly limited to 12 students, thereby enabling full individual participation and a lively and elegant atmosphere. The instructors are professional native speakers with extensive teaching experience and hold advanced degrees in various fields.
Outside the classroom, the students are encouraged to immerse themselves in Spanish and Latin American culture by participating in the Institute’s events and by facilitating their participation in field trips, readings, musical and dramatic performances, art exhibitions and restaurant events around New York City.
Given the importance of language skills as a prerequisite for success in a global market, the Institute is committed to providing the very best in Spanish instruction.

If your company is a Corporate Member of the Institute the membership fee is waived.
Membership fee is $60. Click here to become a member
Methods of Payment
We accept all major credit cards, personal checks and cash. Full payment must be received by the last day of registration. Payments received after that day are subject to a $15 late fee. For checks returned there will be a $15 charge. If you would like us to invoice your company, please provide us with authorization on company letterhead.
Course cancellations
Queen Sofía Spanish Institute reserves the right to cancel regular or intensive courses if there are fewer than five students registered. Students registered in a cancelled course will be notified and may transfer to another section or request a full refund.
Refunds and Withdrawals - Group Classes
Tuition fees are non-refundable unless a written notification from the student is received before classes start. All refunds are subject to a processing fee of $75.
Membership fees are not refundable. However, in the event that the Institute must cancel a class due to low enrollment, a complete refund of tuition, membership and books will be made. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing refunds.
Once classes start we will only issue credits. Credits work like vouchers, which are used upon withdrawal from a class after the last day of registration and within the first 2 weeks of classes. Credits may be used toward any class or service and are valid for 1 year. In order to receive a credit, you must inform the Class Program Administration of your withdrawal in writing within the first 2 weeks of classes for the 9-week courses or within the first week of classes for the 3-week intensive courses.
Credits are not transferable and you may not receive credit based on credit. Private classes are not refundable.
On-Site Private & Group Programs
Once we have confirmed your program, we will fax or mail you an agreement, which must be returned at least one business day before classes are to begin. If you would like us to invoice your company, we must receive authorization at the time the classes are arranged. Costs of books and book delivery charges are additional. If your company is a Corporate Member of the Institute, please specify this when arranging classes so that the membership fee is waived. Refunds or credits will not be issued after the registration process is complete.
Private Class Cancellation Policy
Students may cancel a class by informing the Class Program Administration at least 24 hours in advance by calling by 5 p.m. on the previous working day. Canceling with the teacher or failing to call the Class Program Administration results in forfeiture of the lesson. If a student cannot meet an instructor on a pre-arranged schedule, the student may consider the Flexible Schedule Option.
Semi-private classes must be cancelled by all students enrolled in class. Cancellation by just one student (in a semi-private or special group class) is not accepted and does not release that student from paying for the missed class.
Discounts (For group classes only)
Certificates of Completion will be issued upon request to students who wish to have documentation of successful completion of a course. Any student needing a letter grade should inform the Class Program Administration at the beginning of the cycle.

Group classes are strictly limited to 12 students, enabling full individual participation and a lively atmosphere.
LEVELSINITIAL LEVEL
The student starts to speak Spanish from the first day. Upon completing this level the student will have a repertoire of basic language to deal with everyday situations with predictable content. The student will be able to produce brief everyday expressions in order to satisfy simple needs of a concrete type: Describe personal details, daily routines, wants and needs, requests for information, narrate past events, write simple personal letters, postcards, notes and forms.
The Initial level is divided into 4 courses of 27 hours each one:
Initial 1, 2, 3 and 4.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
It enriches the students’ oral proficiency through an emphasis on colloquial vocabulary, grammar study, discussions and readings.
In Intermediate 1 the student can express him/herself with sufficient vocabulary but with some hesitation on topics such as family, hobbies and interests, work, travel and current events. Upon fully completing courses 2, 3, & 4 of this level the student will be able to describe unpredictable situations, interact spontaneously, give clear descriptions, express view points, develop arguments with good fluency, explain the main points in an idea or problem and express thoughts on abstract or cultural topics such as literature and films.
The Intermediate level is divided into 4 courses of 27 hours each one:
Intermediate 1, 2, 3 and 4.
ADVANCED LEVEL
Advanced 1, 2, 3 & 4.Upon completing these levels, the student will be able to express him/herself clearly without having to restrict what he/she wants to say. Will develop a reliable mastery of a very wide range of language to formulate thoughts precisely, emphasize specific points, develop ideas systematically and eliminate ambiguity. At this advanced level the student is offered a variation of special courses; ‘Grammar, Conversation & Current Events’, ‘Spanish through Translation’ and ‘ Spanish through Cinema’ to help him/her to achieve remarkable fluency in the oral and written language.
The Advance level is also divided into 4 courses of 27 hours each one:
Advance 1, 2, 3 and 4.
SUPERIOR LEVEL
At this level the student is offered a variation of high-level Spanish conversation courses that target student’s approaching fluency: feel fully comfortable with Spanish, be creative and develop a personal style, put across complex points of view, argue, negotiate, write essays and reports. The classes are centered on discussions on literature, current events and grammar revision. Increased oral proficiency is obtained through continuous practice.
